Getting Ready to Print on Your Walls

Gather all your materials and set up a work area before you begin to apply paint. I spread newspapers in a small area on the floor, perhaps 3 feet by 3 feet. You will not need newspapers throughout the room, because stencil prints are applied so dry there are never drips. On the newspaper, I place my paints, my roller tray or glass, one for each color in my design, my stirring rods, one for each color I plan to use, paint thinner, a pile of clean newspapers and clean cloths and a large paper bag to use as a waste basket. Make sure you have enough space to work without being crowded, and try to set up your work area where the light is good. When your work area is set up, you are ready to begin printing.

You do not have to move furniture or even take down drapes unless they are in your way. You should however have a clean, waxless surface on which to print. Wax can be removed with paint thinner. Dirt should be scrubbed from any surface that hasn’t been newly painted in order to assure that the paint will stick.
